Northern Road the drain
be 1'6" wide by 1'6" high exclusive
of the invert in the form shewn in Margin
increasing
to 2 feet 6 inches by 1'6" gradually at its termination with the Sea East and West in the main Central Road the
same gradation may be arranged and at the junction with the main South Road,
where the drain will be 1'6" by 1'6" it will
diverge the same size and on each line South East,
East and West, Commencing
and West be continued to the sea terminating
as before; by this arrangement, without flushing boxes, and trap at the junction of these Roads, a stream of
water may
in heavy rains or otherwise
be conducted into each drain, or the Sewage
from the Cantonment diverted in either direction
if necessary.
The main drainage, however, of the Cantonment will, if the
present proposed levels are carried out, be conducted of necessity to the S.W. Corner
of it; if that be the case, at its junction
with the public Road, it
may be necessary
to increase the size of Colonial drain.
I propose to adopt the form
of drain best suited to stone, which should be
used and not brick, in preference to the
formation of a curved invert, or Egg-shaped
drain, which would be infinitely
expensive and not more
effective, practically,
for such sized drains.
At the junction of Streets immediately
in rear of Praya the drain to be 2'6" x 1'6"
